I dress in a black sweater dress which previously belonged to my mother and my Christian Louboutin heels Cassius gave me for his birthday dinner. I have pulled my hair back into a loose French braid. There’s a knock on the door and I open it to Cassius. He looks me up and down and then goes into my vanity and pulls out the black ring he bought me. He slides it on my finger like the night he gave it to me, and I briefly lose myself in his eyes before shaking myself back to reality.

“I am going down by myself if you don’t mind. We will meet you in the throne room in a little while.”

“Anything you want, Princess.”

“My Evil Prince.” I walk out of the room without him. An action that turns out to be harder than letting him live. My body is combating conflicting emotions. Last night I wanted to kill him and tonight I want to love him. I don’t have it in me to do either. I descend the staircase and box up all my emotions. I cannot let my feelings get in the way of what we need to accomplish tonight. I came here last night intent on starting another war, but I will not leave here without a signed peace treaty in my hand.
